Across Latin America, the tradition of poster making has been particularly prevalent. Posters were often political, as seen in the imagery of Che Guevara throughout the Cuban Revolution. They communicated critical messaging throughout the Mexican American Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. They were also used for entertainment, such as in movie posters of the 60s and 70s, which often made nods to the US and UK’s Pop Art movement. Today, posters continue to show the complexity of people, politics, and heritage.
This Hispanic Heritage Month, get inspired by the work of Mexican poster artist Luis Fitch. Drop into Mia’s Studios and create your own original mixed media poster alongside the artist himself.
