Marty’s Deli

At Marty’s Deli in Northeast Minneapolis, you’ll find superb sandwiches on fluffy focaccia. The simple menu has five sandwiches to choose from – customers love the Uncle Pete (a gourmet take on the classic BLT) and vegetarians will enjoy The Seward for its cauliflower, whipped feta, beets, pesto, and arugula.

Clancey’s

Clancey’s is an artisanal butcher shop in South Minneapolis. They’re known for thick sandwiches – corned beef, roast beef, turkey, tuna salad, and smoked ham is piled high on locally made bread. Sandwiches are made until the bread runs out, which is usually around 1:30 pm.

France 44 Cheese Shop

The France 44 Cheese Shop in Linden Hills is known for their cheese and charcuterie selections. Any of the made-to-order cheese boards could be on the cover of a magazine and are filled with meats, cheeses, spreads, nuts, and more. Or buy wrapped cheese and grab some pantry items to build your own board. If you go this route, don’t forget to pack a cheese knife!

Kramarczuk’s

This community staple is known for Eastern European specialties both in its deli and casual restaurant (the locals call it “K’s”). The deli and market is perfect for packing a picnic — they've got everything from beer sticks and beef jerky to smoked ham and bratwurst. Browse their market for some extras, too — you'll find European breads, chocolates, and snacks.

Official Fried Chicken

If you want your picnic to have a star dish, try Official Fried Chicken. Inside the Currie Food Hall by Target Center, they serve crispy, juicy, and authentic fried chicken. Choose between three flavors — Original, Master BBQ, or Mighty Buffalo — and don’t forget to add fries to your order.

Surdyk’s Liquor and Cheese Shop

Surdyk’s is a family-owned, one-stop-shop for meat, cheese, and drink needs. Locals love their selection of cured meats and cheeses — you’ll find a whole case stacked with artisan options. The salami, prosciutto, and other meats are wrapped and ready to go.

Turtle Bread Company

Every charcuterie spread needs bread to go with. With three locations in Minneapolis, it's clear that Turtle Bread Company's fresh-baked breads are loved by customers. They pride themselves in their baguettes baked fresh daily — carry one in your tote bag with the rest of your picnic fixings and you'll feel Parisian. Looking for something more out of the box? Try their green olive loaf, or their seasonally-flavored dinner rolls, like asiago pepper.

Café Ceres

Add some sweetness to your picnic and stop by Café Ceres in Linden Hills for excellent coffee, craft espresso drinks, and pastries with a Turkish twist. Try the pistachio croissant, a slice of mandarin olive oil cake, or the chocolate tahini cookies.

Kruse Markit

This woman-owned market has it all: coffee, beer, wine, seasonally fresh food, and a corner store filled with goodies. You’ll find snacks like pimento cheese chips, salsas and dips, flavored popcorn, cookies, crackers, and jams, so stop here for all the extras.

Alma Provisions

This small storefront by Lake Harriet is filled with home goods and pantry items. Marinated olives, spiced almonds, house made hummus, cheese dips like ricotta with herbs and honey, and chocolates line the shelves of Alma Provisions. Don’t forget the crackers!

Marigold

You’ve got the food covered…what about drinks? Marigold in South Minneapolis is a one-stop-shop for non-alcoholic beverages with incredible flavors. You’ll find seltzers, tonics, sparking NA aperitifs, cocktail mixers, and more. Marigold has one of the largest selection and variety of NA drink options in the Twin Cities.

Boom Island Park is on the historic Mississippi riverfront. With a view of the Minneapolis downtown skyline, your picnic will be picturesque.

Minnehaha Regional Park has many trees, shaded picnic tables, and a playground for the kids. It’s also home to Minnehaha Falls – Minneapolis’ 53-foot waterfall – and an off-leash dog park on the banks of the Mississippi River.

The sunny Bohemian Flats on West River Parkway have flat ground (perfect for picnic blankets) and a great view of the Mississippi River. This park also has covered picnic tables.

Along the shores of Lake Harriet, you’ll find plenty of green space. There are also picnic tables and a bandshell that hosts concerts and events during the summer.

Loring Park is within walking distance of downtown Minneapolis, but it feels like a secluded oasis. There are plenty of grassy areas to spread out a picnic blanket, as well as a pond and walking paths for an after-meal stroll.

Powderhorn Park has a large green space for picnicking, a small lake, playground, and picnic tables.
